course pattern design
Since October 2022 I am asked to give a course Pattern design by hand at Textilice. This institutie for education in textile, print and fashion is based in Eijsden, nearby Maastricht. I gave 3 courses since then and a fourth is planned for June. Go to the Textilice website to get more information.
You can have your Olivia Bertus bag repaired. When the corners of the bag are to worn out I can replace the bottom of the bag so it can be used for another couple of years. Choose the same color or a different one. Get in contact to ask about prices and possibilities. Also bag zippers can be repaired most of the time.
new Maastricht print
The Bordenhal is my latest addition to the Maastricht patterns. The'Maastricht in patterns' project is an ode to my father, artist Peter Bertus († 2-4-2018). He worked on his project 'Maastricht in 100 etchings' since 1992. He loved his birth city very much and I inherited this love. I start drawing a pattern (with a fineliner) in my sketchbook, without rulers or sketching. Then I color them with markers. After that I make a scan and work on them digitally to make a repeat pattern that can be applied on fabrics and wallpaper. I use the fabrics in my bags and accessories.
for sale in Japan
From April this year the bags and some accessories are for sale in Japan. My highly appreciated customer Satoru really wanted to sell my work in his home country. Even the bags with Maastricht lining fabrics. He lived in Germany for a while and came across my bags in Düsseldorf. He visited my atelier several times and introduced me successfully to his friends. When he moved back to Japan he started a business and launched a webshop Colorjoy.
