Olivia (born in Maastricht, 1979) graduated in 2001 at the Academie of Fine Arts in Maastricht. Her discipline was applied textile design. Since then she has worked as a textile designer making her own collections. A wide range of bags, cuddly animals, pouffes, beanies, etc. all within her discipline. Her style features distinctive combinations of color and material, influenced by classic/retro designs and the use of printed fabrics. These fabrics are printed with her own hand drawn pattern designs.
On Olivia’s birth card is written ‘We noemen haar Olijfje’. Friends and family still call her Olijf (being 1,83m tall she’s no longer Olijfje). She was born in a creative family. Her father is the painter and etcher Peter Bertus, her mother Chris Roovers is a ceramic artist and her sister Andrea is a graphic designer (the logo and website among other things). Only the youngest two chose a different path.
All items are made by Olivia in her studio at home. At the studio you will find, besides a big fabric collection, boxes full of leftover materials: tarpaulin, leather, printed fabrics, felt, etc. These materials are being used in different projects like shopper Africa and the cuddly pillow.
Greentom makes the greenest stroller on planet earth. At the end of 2014 Olivia was asked to design a footmuff and diaper bag for this innovative company. Since 2015 she works for them part-time as a textile designer.
For the Amsterdam based printstudio Amsterstampa Olivia designed prints for fashion and interior between 2004-2009. This studio represents different designers and sells their work worldwide. One print was published in New Fashion Print by Martin Dawber.
